Please refer to the press release below about the ability to e-file Annual Returns directly from Companyworks to the New Zealand Companies Office.
We're currently working with a small group of clients before releasing the functionality to all users. If you're interested in filing in February using Companyworks, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org. Otherwise when the functionality is released to all users, we'll send another email outlining details of the Companies Office requirements, instructions, and details of some short training webinars we'll run.
Trustworks users will be able to use this to e-file annual returns for their trustee companies.
Breakthrough in the ease of filing company Annual Returns
Clients of Wellington-based software company Connectworks today e-filed Annual Returns directly from its software product, Companyworks, to the New Zealand Companies Office.
The move is the culmination of work by Connectworks and the New Zealand Companies Office over several months to improve the speed of filing annual returns and their accuracy.
“Around 475,000 Annual Returns are required to be filed on behalf of New Zealand companies every year,” says Connectworks CEO Dr. Jeremy Buckley, “so savings of a even a few minutes per return adds up to a lot of productivity gains for New Zealand businesses and their filing agents.
The initiative is also about improving the accuracy of returns. The current process of updating any changes in the New Zealand Companies Office website may necessitate information contained in other systems having to be re-entered. Filing directly from our product eliminates potential errors resulting from data being re-entered, as well as saving users time.”
Companyworks is a cloud-based software product launched in early 2016 to improve the compliance and management of companies and partnerships. It contains a comprehensive shareholding management system and over 200 company precedents and clauses. Workflows for 49 company actions are also included. It has registers for risks, interests and soft assets, an online minute book and comprehensive document management capability with a range of signing options, including electronic signatures.
“Late last year, we added a new feature to improve the process for professional firms to have their clients verify their Annual Return details,” says Connectworks commercial director Nigel Keats. “We’ve had great feedback that it is proving to be faster and more accurate for both these firms and their clients. Enabling firms to then e-file all their Annual Returns due in the month with this verified information, in just a few more clicks, was the logical next step.”
A user initially verifies themselves by logging into the Companies Office, using RealMe, within Companyworks. Their authority to to act for a company via Companyworks then remains, while valid, without them having to login each time.
Connectworks is also working with the Companies Office to enable the e-filing of director and shareholder changes.
